Day 1: Practice of Service
The Discipline of Service or Servanthood begins with God! You probably already knew that. Serving is a result of experiencing the LOVE of God. John 3:16 says it all, “For God SO LOVED the world that He sent His only son…” The practice of serving comes out of God’s love, not a duty! Love has to be expressed. One of the most incredible ways that God’s love is expressed is through the Discipline of Service. The practice of serving is the outward expression of an inward transformation. Practicing the Spiritual Disciplines puts us in a position to experience God. As we experience God, His love begins to come out of us in many different ways. One of those ways is serving. Today: Think about that part of John 3:16 that says, “For God so loved…” “SO” loved. How much is “SO loved?” Read Matthew 22:37. Do you SO love God?
Day 2: Practice of Service
Philippians 2:5-8 is an incredible description of the “SO loved” expression we found in John 3:16. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even in the form of His Son, Jesus, as a SERVANT! He did not come as a KING! Kings have servants. God came as a servant. He came to this earth to serve and then to die for our sins (Mark 10:45). The Discipline of Service must come from a heart of love. Today: Make a list of the ways God has shown His love to you.
